There's never a perfect time to upgrade your gaming setup, but if you've been eyeing a PlayStation 5, you've probably noticed prices aren't heading downwards. Following similar moves from Microsoft and Nintendo, Sony raised PS5 prices in the US in August 2025, citing a "challenging economic environment."

Right now, the standard PS5 starts at $500, the digital edition sits at $450 and the PlayStation 5 Pro will run you $700. Straight-up console discounts are tough to come by at those prices.

There are still practical ways to save if you're flexible. Trade-in offers and bundling accessories can help bring down the overall cost, even if the console itself isn't heavily discounted. Our CNET team has rounded up the best current offers on consoles, controllers, storage upgrades and must-have games so you can stretch your budget a little further.

PlayStation console deals

PlayStation has been around for 30 years and this year will mark the sixth anniversary of Sony’s PlayStation 5. Since its release, Sony has also dropped the PS5 Slim and the PS5 Pro, seeking to reach a wider audience -- the latter of which pushes the console’s graphical fidelity and ray‑tracing capabilities to the next level.

Whichever PS5 version you choose, you’ll immediately access a vast library of exclusive titles and blockbuster experiences. And these deals make it easier to start the year gaming without overspending.

There are currently no direct discounts for the PlayStation 5 Pro. But you can take advantage of Best Buy's trade-in program and save a bit if you have an eligible device.
