T-Mobile is offering the iPhone 17 for free, but as with all carrier deals, you'll need to read over the fine print before you take advantage of this deal. To get your hands on Apple's latest flagship, you'll need to part with an eligible trade-in and switch to or have a qualifying plan. Yes, that means existing customers with an Experience Beyond, Experience More or Go5G Plus plan can also get the deal, too. Your savings will be delivered via 24 monthly bill credits.

That plan gets you 5G data, 4K streaming and international roaming. Plus, right now, T-Mobile is also offering you Apple TV for just $3 per month, which is an annual savings of $119. That part's optional, though, so don't fret if you'd rather skip the streaming service add-on.

CNET's phone expert, Abrar Al-Heeti, is a big fan of the iPhone 17. In her review, she noted, "Long-overdue upgrades help close the gap between Apple's entry-level iPhone and its pricier Pro models," and it "brings improvements to the camera, battery and display. It's a solid all-around device for most people who want something reliable and capable without breaking the bank."

Don't have a phone to trade? You can also consider grabbing the newly released iPhone 17E, which launched back in March. It's now available at no cost when you switch to T-Mobile and bring your number, no trade-in required. T-Mobile will cover the full $599 retail price through 24 monthly bill credits for eligible customers.

iPhones are notoriously expensive, but the 17E is the exception. Abrar also put the 17E through its paces and noted, "The fact that I have to double-check whether I'm reaching for the iPhone 17E or the 17 is surely a good sign that the gap between the two is narrowing -- and in the right direction." Sometimes the budget option is all you need.

Prefer the Pro? T-Mobile is also taking $830 off the iPhone 17 Pro with a trade-in, which drops the base 256GB to $11 a month. You would need to trade in an eligible phone on an Experience More or Go5G Plus plan.

Keep in mind that with all of these deals, you'll have to pay a $35 device connection charge as well as the tax for the device upfront. But each of these iPhone 17 deals can help you get one of Apple's latest devices in your pocket for a lot less.

Why this deal matters

At the end of the day, free is hard to argue with. This is a great opportunity to get Apple's latest flagship phone in your hand without paying for the device. The no-trade-in requirement on the 17E is also a solid deal for those who might not have a device to hand over and are thinking about switching carriers. And taking the other deals into account, there's something here for everyone.
