Since it hit shelves back in 2024, the Meta Quest 3S has been one of the most budget-friendly ways to dip your toe into the world of VR. Our experts named it the best affordable headset of 2026, but it's about to get a little more expensive.
Following in Sony's and Nintendo's footsteps, Meta just announced that it will be increasing prices on its Quest VR headsets. Both versions of the Quest 3S will now cost $50 more, which puts the starting price for the 128GB model at $350 and the 256GB model at $450. The regular Meta Quest 3 will also jump up to $600, which is $100 more.
The good news is that the price hike doesn't officially kick in until April 19, so you've still got time to snag one at the original price. There aren't any direct discounts available at the moment, but several retailers are offering bundle bonuses like free games and subscriptions. In his Quest 3S review, CNET's VR expert Scott Stein calls the Meta Quest 3S "by far the best value in VR," and he praises its improved color pass-through cameras, use of mixed reality and improved CPU and graphics.
The new model has the same Qualcomm Snapdragon XR 2 Gen 2 chip found in the Meta Quest 3 and a better color pass-through camera, which enables mixed reality like its predecessor. The controllers are the same, and it has the Fresnel lenses and display resolution of the now-discontinued Quest 2. If you're willing to splurge a little more, the (soon-to-be) $600 Meta Quest 3 may be worth the extra cost for the additional storage and higher-quality lenses and displays.
For a lower cost, this headset upgrade offers a lot, including access to apps and games that older Meta Quest consoles can't run. If you choose to upgrade to the Meta Quest 3S, Meta's also including a free three-month subscription to Meta Quest Plus. Just note that the subscription service will run you $8 a month once your trial expires.

Order the Meta Quest 3S directly from Meta and you'll get a three-month trial of Meta Horizon Plus. The subscription includes two free games every month, which means you'll get six titles total with this offer.
Amazon is also offering the trial for Meta Horizon Plus with your purchase, which includes access to over 40 games.
Or, you can opt for one free month of Xbox Game Pass instead. It's a $15 value, but can only be redeemed by new or returning subscribers.
Like most other retailers, Newegg is offering three free months of Meta Quest Plus with the purchase of the Quest 3S. Plus, you'll also get a free digital copy of Batman: Arkham Shadow, which is a $50 value.
At the moment, Walmart is sold out of the Meta Quest 3S. You may see select configurations available for purchase, but these are usually being sold by unverified third-party vendors, which we'd recommend you avoid.
When it is in stock, it usually comes with three free months of Meta Horizon Plus, as well as a free copy of Batman: Arkham Shadow. It's unclear whether Walmart will have more stock before the price increase.
