2018 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is a plug-in hybrid SUV for the rest of us

The 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV will be the least expensive plug-in hybrid SUV when it comes to market in December. 

The five-passenger SUV will start at $34,595.

The plug-in hybrid also has an on-board generator, so while it can be charged from a DC fast-charger, level 2 public charger or a standard outlet, it's not necessary.

The Outlander PHEV is eligible for a federal tax credit of $5,836, plus whatever your state may offer.

The Outlander uses two full-time 60 kW electric motors, one each on the front and rear axles, and a 2.0-liter gasoline engine.

Drivers can choose between six levels of regenerative braking with the column-mounted paddles.

The interior design is nothing special, but it features quality materials and a seven-inch touchscreen.

The Outlander PHEV supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. 

There is a standard AC outlet in the rear cargo compartment that can handle 1,500 watts of your electronic goodies.
