2020 Ford Escape: Sleeker, smarter and better on road

Ford is launching a new, fourth-generation Escape for the 2020 model year.

The latest Escape has a new chassis, better tech, an updated look and several powertrain options.

The exterior of the 2020 Escape is sleeker and more aerodynamic thanks to a sloping roof, active grille shutters, underbody panels and optimized wheels and taillights.

A 2.0-liter turbocharged I4 is the engine upgrade option that churns out 250 horses and 280 pound-feet of twist. It comes standard with all-wheel drive.

A 1.5-liter turbocharged I3 will serve as the base engine for the 2020 Ford Escape. It makes 181 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque.

The three-cylinder engine comes standard with front-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive is available for an additional $1,500.

Up front, designers looked to the Mustang for inspiration for the Escape's new grille.

Both of the Escape's gas engines work with a new eight-speed automatic transmission.

In addition to the pair of gas engines, the 2020 Ford Escape will be available with a mild-hybrid drivetrain when it launches this fall.

When the 2020 Ford Escape hits dealers in September, it will start at $24,885, not including $1,195 for destination.
