2021 Ram 1500 TRX hits the dirt and flies high

What do you get when you cross a Ram with a Hellcat? Obviously, a T. rex. Meet the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX.

The pickup is powered by FCA's 6.2-liter supercharged Hemi V8 engine, which it inherits from the Challenger and Charger SRT Hellcat cars.

Changes to the intake and exhaust put the V8's output at 702 horsepower; the 650 pound-feet of torque is unchanged.

Beyond the engine, the TRX features a mostly new chassis that's 8 inches wider than the standard 1500.

With 13 inches of front axle travel (and 14 inches at the rear), the TRX's adaptive Bilstein suspension is capable of some pretty extreme feats.

I was encouraged to really test the limits of the TRX's advanced suspension.

All of the vents and ducts on the pickup's more aggressive bodywork appear to be functional, including this little air curtain tucked into the headlamp's corner.

Even the Ram logo is hollowed out to allow for better airflow through the massive grille.

The TRX rides 2 inches higher than the standard 1500 with about 11.8 inches of static ground clearance.

Its adaptive damper suspension keeps the ride nicely controlled on the road, while allowing excellent shock absorption during high-speed off-road maneuvers.
