2021 Volkswagen Jetta GLI: The adult GTI

This is the 2021 Volkswagen Jetta GLI. If you've ever wondered what happens to a hot hatch when it grows up, this is it.

The GLI is distinguished from the plain-Jane Jetta with larger air intakes, a low front spoiler and unique side skirts. 

The grille takes some styling cues from the GTI with its honeycomb pattern and red accent stripe.

The GLI rolls on 18-inch wheels wrapped in 225/45-series Hankook Ventis S1 Evo3 tires. 

The Jetta GLI is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine pushing out 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.

To put the power down to the front wheels, buyers can choose between a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.

A limited-slip front differential works with the car's electronic differential lock, throwing torque to the wheel with the most grip.

The GLI sits 0.6 inches lower to the ground than the standard Jetta for a more sporty look. 

The GLI's fuel economy is on par with its competitors, returning an EPA rating of 24 miles per gallon in the city, 33 mpg highway and 28 mpg combined. 

The base GLI starts at $27,340 including $995 for destination. The car pictured here goes for $32,335 including destination.
