FRANKFURT -- Boy, the Jaguar XF sedan is sure looking bloated these days.

That's because this is no sedan; it's Jaguar's new crossover SUV, the 2017 F-Pace.

The F-Pace has a forward design that unsurprisingly borrows heavily from headlamps and rounded grille design of the automaker's newest sedans.

There are two engine options for the crossover: a 180-horsepower, 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine and a 340-horsepower, supercharged gasoline V-6.

A top-tier F-Pace S model and the limited "First Edition" will be offered with an even more potent 380-horsepower tune for the supercharged V-6.

Like the XF, XE and F-Type before it, the F-Pace will make use of an all-aluminum body.

Taillights for the crossover share their design with the low-slung F-Type coupe and convertible. Surprisingly, they work well on the more upright rear end.

The latest version of the automaker's InControl Touch Pro infotainment makes use of a widescreen, 12.3-inch display and revised navigation software with 3D maps.

Regardless of engine chosen, power must flow through an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission, which is controlled with this motorized knob.

Another hallmark of recent Jaguar design that makes an appearance on the new model is the 12-inch digital instrument cluster. Here, the design has been revised with a more modern graphics.

Additionally, the F-Pace will position yet a third display ahead of the driver: a full-color, laser head-up display option. (Not seen here.)

Filling the cabin with sound is either a standard Meridian audio system or an optional Meridian surround system, boasting 380 and 825 watts respectively.

The F-Pace evolves Jaguar interior design, combining bits that we love (quality leather, panoramic moonroof, ambient mood lighting) with more modern materials. Personally, I'm glad to see less glossy plastic.

Perhaps the most surprising fact about the F-Pace is that the US market is getting the diesel engine at launch.

The F-Pace also joins the ranks of vehicles with onboard Wi-Fi. The crossover's network is able to connect up to eight devices to the Web wirelessly.

With the F-Pace, Jaguar is also debuting a technology called Activity Key: an optional, waterproof wristband that allows the keys to be securely locked inside the vehicle while engaging in outdoor activity. It's basically the smart keyless entry fob for your wrist.
