Jaguar Land Rover launches new JustDrive voice-command app

The latest addition to Jaguar Land Rover's list of InControl integrated smartphone apps is JustDrive.

This first-party app is designed to be a hub for infotainment information, but it also rolls in Web connectivity and advanced voice commands.

When JustDrive is launched, the app cycles through a few bits of relevant information before you hit the road.

You'll see weather information, commute times to commonly accessed destinations, and news updates before reaching the home screen.

The home screen splits with large shortcuts to the three major functions on one side and a map on the other. These shortcuts can also display contextual information about where you're going and what you're playing.

Users can also display large album artwork in the left pane.

Voice commands play a large roll in JustDrive's interactions. You can say, "Text John" and then send a message.

You can also say "Text John my location" or "Tweet my location" to send a map of the car's current position.

Integration with Yelp means that Web-connected destination searches will also include ratings for businesses.

Tapping a location, when stopped, will display photos and Yelp review data.

Integration of Google Street View gives the driver a curbside view of what to expect when they reach the destination.

Users can adjust the layout of InControl apps via the Jaguar Land Rover app on a connected smartphone.

InControl and JustDrive connect to the host vehicle via USB, but also require a Bluetooth connection to transmit audio and voice information.
