The 2020 Mercedes-AMG debuted earlier this year in Frankfurt, but we couldn't help a second look when it made landfall in North America at the 2017 LA Auto Show.
The hyper car makes the bold claim of being the first street-legal Formula One car. It's powered by the same 1.6-liter turbocharged V6 engine you'll find in Mercedes' F1 race car.
The compact V6 features a screaming 11,000 RPM redline and is force-fed air by an electric turbocharger.
Three more electric motors, one for the rear wheels and one for each front wheel, aid the gasoline engine. They each add 160 horsepower to the bottom line. EACH!
Total output is stated at "over 1,000 horsepower."
With a larger battery pack than the F1 car, Project One will also be able to glide under full electric power for about 15 miles.
Top track speed is a lofty 217 mph, but it'll get to 125 mph in less than 6 seconds.
Project One was displayed alongside AMG's GT4 endurance car.
