Still among the best all-around seven-passenger luxury SUVs, the 2008 Acura MDX never disappoints (except perhaps in its looks) but is due for some cabin tech updates and a little more power to match its handling.
Acura keeps its model options simple. You can either get the car with our without the tech package. This being CNET Car Tech, we of course got the tech package, which includes GPS and a surround sound stereo system. Bluetooth cell phone integration comes on both versions.
The MDX uses Acura's super-handling all-wheel-drive system, called SH-AWD. Torque is generally biased toward the front wheels, but 50 percent is sent to the rear wheels as needed.
The interior of the MDX fits the mold of Acura's other cars. It doesn't overwhelm you with luxury, but the materials have a quality feel and the fit looks good.
Voice command controls are integrated into the steering wheel, a better arrangement than with Acura's sedans, where the buttons are attached to the sides of the wheel.
