LAS VEGAS--D-Link takes the cloud seriously.
The company unveiled a new Cloud Services strategy at CES 2012, which includes a portfolio of cloud-based products and the expansion of its Mydlink portal.
The gist of the new strategy is that D-Link customers can now use the Internet to manage, monitor, and access information stored on D-Link's networking devices, from anywhere in the world.
Mydlink was first used for the company's IP camera, which enabled people to use D-Link's camera as a surveillance system for their homes. Now a Mydlink portal user can also use the site to access and manage select products, including the new Cloud Router (DIR-605L) and the flagship DIR-857. There's also a mobile app for both iOS and Android devices.
The cloud notion also includes an option that allows users to access data hosted by a D-Link USB-enabled router, such as the DIR-857 or the hybrid DHP-1565 that was also released today. This router uses D-Link's latest SharePort cloud technology, allowing remote users to have VPN-like access to the data stored on a external hard drive connected to the router via its USB port.
The company says some of its existing products will also become part of the Cloud Services via a firmware update. More information on this and how D-Link's Cloud Service works can be found at its Web site.
